Notes:
Penny production in 1929 was characterised by a sharp deterioration in die life with averages falling to 46,000 coins for reverse dies and 34,000 for obverse dies. A number of experimental dies were made in August, 1929 to investigate ways to overcome this problem. The reverse used on this particular penny with the small void in the '9' of the date is the closest match to the reverses on both varieties of 1930 pennies and it is likely that the '2' and '9' were removed from a master die in anticipation of the new coin decade.
