Notes:
The 1932 pennies like the 'Birmingham' reverse 1931 pennies can be sourced to the 1921 reverse die. The last '1' was removed from a 1921 hub with the '2' having already been removed for the 1931 Penny production. A '32' was then added to the ensuing master die. This date also exhibits some work on the reverse legend which exhibits curvature on the base of the letters. Interestingly, W.J. Mullet (a senior officer of the Melbourne Mint) writes that 1932 reverse master tools ie hubs or dies "are recorded as off the 193_ and the 1921 sources." The '193_' was a 'London' type and although no 1932 pennies are known with this reverse they could well have been struck and would constitute a new variety.
