Notes:
The 'K.G' mint mark continued in 1941 to signify Perth struck coins but at some point early in production the Melbourne Mint began to mark the Perth dies with a more significant dot which was placed after the 'Y' of 'PENNY'. This mint mark became the standard for the Perth Mint over the next three decades as it came to dominate penny production in Australia. Due to the general poor quality of surviving coins, it is difficult to give an accurate estimate of the percentage of Perth coins struck with the 'K.G' mint mark. The best estimate is about 10% although this may be an underestimation. There is discussion of a 1941 penny carrying both the K.G and a Y. mint marks, but this is yet to be verified due to the poor state of circulating coins. Until a high grade example surfaces this variety should be treated with scepticism.
