Notes:
By 1952, the Perth Mint had acquired the skill to produce its own working dies from a master die. Perth received two distinct 1951 reverse master tools directly from London which became the basis of its 1952 master dies. The D reverse which was first used on the 1938 penny was quickly discarded, but not before the Perth Mint had experimented with re-entering the '2' on the working dies. Variety collectors claim up to a dozen different versions of the '2' on this scarcer reverse but the overwhelming majority have a pointed serif on the base of the '2'. Many of the supposed differences are slight but dedicated variety collectors may wish to single out a version of the '2' that tilts to the right and one where the base of the '2' is more wedge-shaped, both of which are more noticeable. For the first time the Perth Mint used a dot '•' after the last 'A' of 'AUSTRALIA' as its mint mark.
