Notes:
This coin was initially struck to commemorate the coronation of George VI, but that significance was diminished by the release of a 1938-dated coin of the same design. The diamond-shaped stops in the colons in the reverse legend provide an intriguing connection to the early coins of Queen Elizabeth II which have similar diamond-shaped stops, and perhaps there is some regal connotation. All proofs of this date exhibit a small cross-hatched area of die polish in the hairlines above the ear. The 1937 Crown was put aside by Baldwins (London) in hoard quantities, as were the 1911 Penny, 1912 H Halfpenny the 1927 'Canberra' Florin which were sold off in recent decades. Some of the Baldwin 1937 Crowns sighted by the author at coin fairs in the 1990s appeared proof-like so collectors should be aware that all proofs of this date exhibit a small cross-hatched area of die polish in the hairlines above the ear.
